AR: Salesville, resident at impasse over sex offender sign, Nazi flags

A large sign identifying a sex offender — and apparently the controversial flags the resident has reportedly displayed in protest — will not be coming down, Mayor Tim Mayfield told a concerned businessman Tuesday night.

The sign, maintained by the city and sitting in front of the Salesville Fire Department, identifies Charles Wade Floyd as a Level 4 sex offender and lists his address. Floyd, reportedly as a form of protest against the sign, has three Nazi flags and two Confederate flags displayed on his property along AR Hwy. 177 South. Full Article

Let the city burn and wither. I wouldn’t have said that if it wasn’t for the final comment in the article.

This situation is ripe for escalation. If something happens to this guy I hope he has family that will financially break that town of Salesville AR.

This registrant sounds like a nasty person, but read down to the article:
“Teen overdoses, man arrested for supplying drugs”
When this other former convict gets back into the community, will he also have a sign in his name warning the people to keep their children away?
Hardly think so. Why? Why not? Let’s scare every last good person out of this podunk town.

Good for Mr. Wade for taking a stand. I’m not for Nazi signs or anything but at least he makes a good point here.

K….this whole thing is pretty twisted. First off, the guy sounds deeply disturbed and might need some assistance like round the clock supervision/therapy, not a sign for tourists just further agitating the guy. That sh&t made me sick. The last statement about all SO’s pissed me off too. I’d like to educate that guy face to face. F@ck man, we’d all be better off had we just killed ppl?!? At least we’d be free. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for Everyone else.
If that guy, or like they said WHEN he reoffends it will only prove that the REGISTRY DOES NOT WORK. And neither did the pathetic sign with the guys address and photo on it.

I was trying to think how to challenge this, since the city can say that Connecticut DPS V Doe already allows the registry to be public, so why not the signs on City Hall property as well?

Then it occurred to me…the registry and even a “most wanted” set of posters you have to go out of your way to specifically see. This sign at City Hall is purposefully displayed so that all MUST see it. It also goes beyond any flyers mailed out to those within a certain radius. It just goes too far.

I think he has a good case to sue the city. Unlike the Connecticut web page that SCOTUS said was OK, there is no disclaimer here that says they aren’t determining he is a threat and a note that targeting this guy for any attack is still unlawful. As much of a scum as the guy is, he needs to bankrupt this city so that others get the hint.

That “As a mother..” remark from Lisa Householder West in the comments section made me vomit.

Oh I see, so it’s only when it harms someone who’s trying to open a business that is becomes a problem. Were it not for the guy developing the cabins and ice cream shop, I doubt a single person in town would make a peep.

Good job, Salesville, you’re squandering unknown amounts of tourism and tax dollars over your warped way of informing the public. Does the guy have problems? Seemingly so, based on the information that is in the article. But who failed whom here? Is this guy failing the city by being there? Or, perhaps, did the State of Florida fail the RC *and* the city for how they handled his cases? Hard to know without knowing the details, of course, but being rated Level 4 (makes me think of Spinal Tap, I gotta say…”ours goes to 11.”) says something, I suppose.

This is certainly shaming. Though he’s not literally, physically in stockades in the public square, he is suffering the same effect. Hopefully there’s an ACLU-AR or other helpful legal service willing to take up this case. Regardless what the guy did or his level of risk, what the city is doing sure seems illegal and punishment.
